Austin Weiland and Team Take Home the Victory at the 54th Baja 500 - UPDATED 6/9

Ensenada, Mexico — The 2022 Score International Baja 500 wrapped Sunday evening, June 5th with Austin Weiland, 29, along with co-driver Justin Wragg, 30, of El Cajon, Calif. taking home the gold for Team Can-Am Maverick in the Overall UTV and Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) classes.

Weiland and Wragg took the #1 podium spot in the team's #2954 Can-Am Maverick X3 (pictured) with a penalty-free time time of 11:50:59.667, outclassing all other UTVs and placing 40th in the overall race. Team Weiland averaged 39.08 mph on the grueling course and won the UTV Overall by a lead of nearly 15 minutes.

"It was good, said Wragg. "We only had one flat. Austin started 22nd and brought it to me physically first in our class. And then I just maintained that pace. Overall, it was a great race. It was dusty and rough and technical but what would the SCORE Baja 500 be without all that?"

Also standing on the podium were #2919 Brandon Schueler in his Polaris RZR XP Turbo S 4, and #2969 Branden Sims in his Polaris RZR Turbo R, who placed second and third in class, respectively. Sims alleges controversy in last night's race as a technicality should have awarded him second place.
"This will be my last race with [Score International] if they don’t fix this issue, I work too hard to be robbed of the position my team and I earned," said Branden in a statement issued this morning after the release of the official standings.

Last season Weiland also won 28th overall in the Pro UTV FI class at the 2022 King Shocks Score San Felipe 250 in March.

Update 6/9: SCORE has updated their podium rankings with a new results sheet issued today. The new results puts Schueler and his team Polaris Factory Racing back into the #2 position for overall UTV winner, after some time credits were issued. Weiland's position remains unaffected by this change, and his time remains the same.
