We've picked out a few spots within a few hours drive that will be sure to give you an awesome experience when you get out to explore! Frederic Trail & Route
The Frederic Trail is a 30 mile run through lush, dense forest. The trail is 50” to allow for legal access of standard ATVs and smaller UTVs. The Frederic route is significantly shorter at 11 miles, but is sized at 72” wide to allow for full size side by sides. The trail loop will take most riders a little over 2 hours. There are places to camp in the area so you'll be able to make a full weekend of your trip when you finish the ride.
The Mounds
The Mounds is an awesome ORV area for both ATVs and UTVs to play. With two different scramble areas for you to play in, plenty of pits, rock crawl areas, ATV and full size trails, you're sure to have an awesome time when you go out and put your off road vehicle to the test. Some areas are open only seasonally, so make sure to check out the website we've linked to below before you go out to play. Like other ORV areas, the Mounds have a dedicated rule set, so brush up on those too to make sure your trip is as safe as it is fun!
Snowmobile Trails
When the summer has passed and the snow is on the ground you don't have to put an end to your off road adventures! If you want to keep exploring Michigan even in the winter, hop on an Arctic Cat® snowmobile, and check out some of these awesome trails that are right in our back yard!
Snowmobile Trail 6 near Wellston
Trail 6 runs east/west through the northern areas of the Manistee National Forest. The trails are typically well groomed, however some spots are not open to grooming and are thus considered “rough trail” be aware of this when you take off so you don't get into trouble when you're riding. The area around Wellston has plenty of amenities on the trails, including food, fuel, and lodging for weary riders. Trail 6 runs all the way to the eastern edge of the national forest area, so you can make this a touring ride if you feel like having a longer trip.
Snowmobile Trail 3 near Wellston
Intersecting with snowmobile trail 6 in many places, trail 3 runes north/south through the length of the Manistee National forest. The area around Wellston still has plenty of amenities for weary riders to take a moment and rest, however Trail 3 doesn't follow the highway as closely as 6, so snowmobilers will have to ride this with a little more forethought and preparation.
