ATV, UTV, and Snowmobile Locations Accessible from Hudsonville, Michigan
It's fair to say that Michigan has some of the best ATV, UTV, and snowmobile riding areas in the country. With thousands of miles of off road track in any season, having a snowmobile or side by side is a great investment. We've identified some great places to take your next adventure when you get the itch to get out and ride!
ATV and UTV trails
If you live on Michigan's lower peninsula and you haven't been out to explore the miles upon miles of ATV and UTV trails, you don't know what you're missing. Michigan has a wide network of trails that crisscross our end of the state that are set aside specifically for use by off road vehicles like Polaris® UTVs, or Can-Am® ATVs. Not only that, there is an extensive network of snowmobile trails that are available for use in the winter. Quit missing out, check out some of these great locations and get the most out of your state!
Huron Trail and Huron Sand Lake Spur
Take a long weekend and head out Iosco County on the east side of the lower peninsula. There you can find the awesome Huron Trail, which is an awesome location for some prime ATV and UTV riding. The Huron Trail is 46 miles, with an additional 9 mile ride on the Huron Sand Lake Spur. The trail is wide, but only allows 50" vehicles, so don't bring a full sized UTV on this ride. The sandy portions of the trail aren't overly difficult to navigate, so they shouldn't prove to be a significant challenge for most riders.
West Higgins Trail
The West Higgins trail is a 41 mile loop that lies at the intersection of Kalkaska, Crawford, Roscommon, and Missaukee Counties. This trail is rated for vehicles 50" inches wide or smaller, and intersects with a stretch of the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail, so don't be surprised to find off-road bike traffic on your ride. This ride is great because of its close proximity to amenities and other outdoor activities. The North and South Higgins lake state parks are within just a few miles, which gives ORV enthusiasts access to some camping and swimming when they're done riding the trail.
Snowmobile Trails
When winter rolls around and it's time to pack up the Polaris® ATV, it's time to break out the Ski-doo snowmobile. You don't have to venture far from Hudsonville to find a place to get a great winter ride in once there's a solid snowpack, check out some of these awesome trail systems:
Snowmobile Trail 6 near Lake City
If you are up to take your snowmobile towards the center of Michigan, you can take a ride on this central stretch of trail 6. This stretch of trail is fairly wild, with few places to stop and warm up, grab food, or snag fuel. Plan on a straight ride without a ton of stops when you hit this stretch of trail and you'll be just fine.
Trail 6 North from Cadillac
This snowmobile trail is a great ride for riders who want to have access to plenty of amenities. Heading north from Cadillac you run past Fife lake, which is a place to stop for fuel or food on the way up or back. When trail 6 turns into trail 55 you can continue north and head all the way up to kalkaska, or make a shorter loop by heading towards Traverse City and turning back south onto snowmobile trail 6.
