ATV, UTV and Snowmobile Routes near Rockford, Michigan

Sometimes the hardest part about owning an ATV, UTV, or Snowmobile is deciding where to go. We at Village Motorsports in Holland, Michigan want to make that piece of your ownership just a little easier. We’ve picked out some great trails and routes for you to explore here on the Lower Peninsula so you can enjoy your riding without having to do so much research.

ATV and UTV trails

You don’t have to go far from Rockford to find some great trails to ride. Within just a few hours drive you can find a great variety of off road motorcycle, ATV and UTV paths to explore. No matter what size your vehicle is you can be sure you have a place to play around here in Michigan.

Missaukee Junction Trail

About an hour and a half north of Rockford is the Missaukee Junction Trail. The Missaukee Junction Trail is 18 miles of winding paths that make a loop through the forest. This trail is definitely tight in places, and has steep banks that will hold water if it has rained recently, make sure you take this into account when you’re planning your ride. In places the dense forest will give way to beautiful open meadows, but the trail remains very curvy throughout so there are few places you can open up the throttle.

Denton Creek Trail & Route

If you head about 2 hours northeast of Rockford you can find the sprawling Denton Creek Trail and Route. This trail complex is an extensive set of paths that stitch through the center of Roscommon County. At 48 miles of ATV ready dirt, the Denton Creek Trail is a great place to spend a day exploring. The Denton Creek Route also features a full 25 miles of road open to full sized UTVs so you don’t have to worry about restricting yourself to vehicles that are less than 50” wide.

Snowmobile Routes

Right outside of Rockford there are several different options for snowmobiling. If you’re looking for an exciting way to travel between cities in the winter there is nothing quite like revving up the engine on your snowmobile and bypassing the roads as you fly across the farmland.

Route 5 Cedar Springs to Big Rapids

Snowmobile Route 5 runs north/south all the way up to Cadillac, so if you are keen to get a marathon ride in you certainly can. As it stands we recommend a round trip of about 100 miles starting just below Cedar Springs. From there the trail heads almost directly north through Sand Lake, Pierson, Howard City, Morley, and Starwood. We recommend turning around in Big Rapids as this leg of the trail is already a pretty good haul. This road crosses quite a few roads, but runs parallel to U.S. 131, which is the biggest source of transit in the area, so you won’t have to deal with the busiest of the traffic.

Route 19 Marne to Muskegon (Musketawa Trail)

Snowmobile route 19 follows the 25 miles of the Musketawa trail from Marne, through Conklin and Ravenna, to Muskegon. This trail is a fairly easy ride, but like most of the snowmobile routes in the southern end of the Lower Peninsula, it crosses quite a few roads. Be sure to stay visible and vigilant as you ride this route, but make sure to enjoy the beautiful farmland that you will be riding across. As this ride is fairly short and passes through quite a few towns you’ll have plenty of chances to stop to warm up or grab some food or fuel along the way.
